On the day of his last performance before retiring, Principal Dancer Pierre-François Vilanoba looks back on his 23-year career with Paris Opera Ballet and San Francisco Ballet. He talks about his entry into ballet, how his perspective on dance has changed over the years, what’s been most important to him, and what he’s looking forward to in the next stage of life.
Principal Dancer Tiit Helimets discusses his roles in Val Caniparoli’s Ibsen’s House and Edwaard Liang’s Symphonic Dances; his ongoing ties to his native country, Estonia; and his entrepreneurial endeavors, including a tour to Estonia with a small troupe (and documentary of that tour), a multimedia dance project at the de Young Museum, and private-label wines to support Estonian National Ballet’s visit to the U.S. in June 2013.

<p>The repertoire for this program—George Balanchine’s Symphony in Three Movements, Helgi Tomasson’s Criss-Cross, and Yuri Possokov’s Francesca da Rimini, represents three generations of choreographers. Ballet Master Katita Waldo, who has performed in both Criss Cross and Symphony in Three Movements, will be joined by Soloist Garen Price Scribner and Corps de Ballet Dancer Charlene Cohen to discuss the contrasting experience of creating a new work and interpreting a classic.</p>
